Praying for Rain

Since late 2009, I have been led to pray for rain – not in the natural but in the spiritual.  As we crossed into 2010, I sensed that we are standing at the threshold of a big move of God.  And what privilege that we can partner Him in the work of the Kingdom in these final days!  But make no mistake … it will not be done by our own power, nor by our own might … it can only be achieved by and through the power of the Holy Spirit! (Zech 4:6)

This desire for rain only increased as I hear more and more men and women of God speak about it in their messages and articles.  I know I’m not the only one but there are others who are crying out for the same thing too.  I posted a few comments about this in Send Your Rain.  All over the world, the church is expecting a fresh outpouring as in the book of Acts, on the Day of Pentecost.  It has already begun in certain areas and regions.  And yet, I believe this will increase and it will happen in far greater dimensions.  I see the Acts outpouring as “the former rain”.  Brace yourself, for God is going to send “the latter rain” in these latter days!

Two nights ago, we had an Overnight Prayer, themed as “Holy Spirit Rain Down”.  That day, the weather was scorching!  The sun blazed and the heat was unbearable.  Yet, by the time it came to the afternoon, almost suddenly, it poured buckets!  Wow!  First the natural, then the spiritual!  It was so encouraging for me – I knew in my spirit that the Lord was showing us what would happen in the spiritual realm as we prayed for the Holy Spirit to rain down through the Overnight Prayer.  Glory!

Yesterday, I was rather amused when I came across this article “Special prayers to bring rain” in The Straits Times …

Co-incidence?  I think not!  In the natural, many parts of the world are facing dry spells.  In the spiritual, many Christians are also experiencing dry moments in their spiritual walk and lives!  We are praying for RAIN!  Oh Lord, do we need Your rain!!!

I believe that in preparation for the coming glory and power, the Lord is stirring up a new hunger and a new thirst in the hearts of His children.  Many have become complacent, relying on their own strength and know-how.  Many have become tired and overly stretched through the ministry and activities of the church.

God is preparing His temple for a greater glory (Haggai 2:9) that will come in and through the shaking that will take place in the church, in our lives; and on a global scale, in the world, its economy and its climate.  Situations may appear uncertain and bleak, and for some, dark even.  But that’s just the stage that is being set for a breakthrough of the Light of God, the arising of His people that will manifest His glory and power (Isa 60:1,2)!  Read Hebrew Year 5770: AD2010.

I really believe the time is soon.  Since the time of Jesus, two days (2,000 years – 2 Peter 3:8) have come and gone.  We are now in the third day, which speaks of resurrection, revival and restoration!  For sure, this is the time to press in and to keep praying for the Lord to send His rain.  At the same time, we are to be prepared and positioned for this tremendous outpouring of His Holy Spirit.  As the disciples held on to the words of Jesus, so too are we to hold fast to His promises.  As they tarried with expectation, with hope and in faith, so too are we to wait for Him and all He has for us.

My heart is filled with great expectations, and yet, I don’t even know what to expect!  Send Your rain, Lord, send Your rain!

“Come, and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.  After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.  Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.  His going forth established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth.” Hosea 6:1-3
