One day at a time

This is my very first blog entry so what better way to begin than to share a song I wrote a couple of years back.

It was Dec 2006 and we were expecting our 6th child due June the next year.  We had been living by faith, trusting in the Lord to meet our every need.  However, one morning, as I contemplated the reality of having one more child, fear and anxiety gripped my heart.  Questions flooded my mind: “How are we going to manage?  The children are all growing up and needing more.  What about our car?  We have run out of seats.  What about the house?  What about …?”

As the voice of my mind got louder, the still small voice of the Lord said, “One day at a time.  One day at a time.”  Then suddenly, as quickly as the anxiety came, it left and I was filled with the peace of God.  Indeed, my God is in control.  And as He has provided so faithfully, He will continue to provide.  Why should I worry about anything at all?  All I need to do is take it one day at a time and to keep trusting Him.

This episode provided the motivation to write this song, aptly entitled “One Day At A Time”.  Perhaps, one day I will get to record and publish this song.  But in the meantime, may the lyrics encourage you …

Look at the birds up in the air
Look at the way they’re playing in the sky
Without a worry or a care
For they are precious in the Father’s eyes
Why should I wonder what I eat or drink?
Why do I worry for He knows my needs?

Chorus:
One day, one day at a time
One day, one day at a time

Look at the lilies of the field
Look at the splendour, how they grow in style
The Father watches o’er them still
Am I not special in my Father’s eyes?
Why should I wonder what I have to wear?
Why should I worry for I know He’s there?

Bridge:
I will seek Your Kingdom first
I will seek Your Righteousness
All the things that I can’t see
Shall be added unto me
